Our very own Jo Mandet is a contestant on this season of The Great Canadian Baking Show

Jo’s passion for baking started when she was a little girl baking beside her mum back in the UK. (We can attest that Granny Sue’s sourdough is di-vine.) Fast forward a few decades to being a mother of four children and being involved in the school community, and baking took on a new frequency. When the pandemic hit, she had extra time to enjoy her passion, vaulting her artistic vision for decorating to exceptional heights. Making cakes and macarons for friends' birthdays and delivering them to their doors gave her something meaningful to share during uncertain times. When she learned that The Great Canadian baking Show was holding an open casting call in Vancouver, it took some convincing that she was well rounded enough to give it a shot. We are thrilled the producers saw in her what we get to enjoy everyday: her warmth and authenticity. We’re so proud of Jo for making it onto the show from the thousands of applicants across the country! The first episode airs this Sunday, October 5th on CBC and CBC Gem.

Nessa's Christmas Party Music Mix

Music sets the mood at a party and the holidays are no different. I actually experience a feeling bordering on anxiety when I’m at an event or party and the room is quiet like a library until people’s conversations fill the air. The right background music when people arrive soothes the savage beast, as they say, and sends a cue to your guests that your party is meant to be fun. Singing along is encouraged.
This mix is equal parts Christmas tunes and classic jazz vocals, so it appeals to both cool cocktail crowds and your friend who puts her tree up on November 15th! ~ Nessa

Are we allowed to host a dinner party under the latest P.H.O. rules?

Public Health Orders regarding events have been amended, changed, updated, and changed again a total of 6 times in the last 2 months. Confusing right? What you might have missed is that you can still have guests over to your home for dinner. As of the date of this newsletter, here is what is allowed until the next expected update on Feb. 16th:
