NORTH VANCOUVER, BC - November 6, 2026 - Bon Vivant Catering & Events, a chef-driven catering company owned by industry powerhouse couple Chef Dino Renaerts and Nessa van Bergen, is acquiring Louis Gervais Fine Foods & Catering, including its North Vancouver Bistro, as Chef Louis Gervais prepares to retire.
The acquisition marks a handover between two husband-and-wife teams with deep roots in Vancouver’s hospitality. Chef Louis and Kelly Gervais have built a business spanning catered celebrations, corporate events, and everyday meals at their Harbourside Drive Bistro. Nessa and Dino bring their world-class event experience, marrying fine food, wine, and private events, to the next chapter.
“Building this business with Kelly has been one of the great joys of my life,” says Chef Louis Gervais. “I am grateful to our team, to the clients who invited us into their celebrations, and to the people who made the Bistro part of their day. As I prepare to retire, it means a great deal to see Nessa and Dino carry it forward.”
A Montreal-born chef and former executive chef at Vancouver’s Sutton Place Hotel, Chef Louis brought his classical training to a catering business that blends European influences with flavours from around the world. Alongside Kelly, he cultivated a personal approach to hospitality, from custom event menus to the café’s welcome.
“Dino and I understand how much of yourselves you put into a business when you build it together,” says van Bergen, Bon Vivant’s Managing Partner and Sommelier. “Louis and Kelly have created something deeply personal. We are excited to get to know the people behind it and, once again, have a brick-and-mortar location where our clientele can stop by for a glass of wine and a nibble in North Vancouver.”
An experienced hospitality veteran, van Bergen’s career includes Le Crocodile and Joe Fortes, while Renaerts’ culinary background spans Bishop’s, Le Gavroche, the Fairmont hotels, and Diva at the Metropolitan Hotel. Both are trained sommeliers, bringing a shared interest in food, wine, and service to Bon Vivant Catering and Events.
“Chef Louis has infused his own character into the food and the experience,” says Renaerts, Bon Vivant’s Partner and Executive Chef. “That is something to respect. I look forward to learning what guests love about the business and to bringing my own experience to its next chapter.”
Under the new ownership, Louis Gervais Fine Foods Bistro will continue serving the North Shore with the same talented group of employees. This acquisition will further strengthen Bon Vivant’s hospitality offerings in the lower mainland.
